Samsung’s new flip phone is strangely beautiful
Forget the Galaxy S8
– because Samsung has just launched a brand new flip phone that might
be one of the most attractive handsets we’ve seen this year.
Flip phones have been dead in the west for years now, but East Asian markets like South Korea and China still have plenty of love for the noughties relic. That’s why it’s no real surprise to see Samsung launching the new SM-G9298 flip phone, an ugly name that’s not at all representative of the pretty phone it’s attached to.

The handset is built from airplane-grade aluminium alloy, and boasts a 4.2-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display on both the inside and outside of the device. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s relatively new Snapdragon 821 processor, which is the same chip that fuels the recently launched LG G6.
MPU 1 (Desktop / Tablet) It also has 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a 12-megapixel f/1.7 rear camera that sounds about as good as you’d expect from a typical flagship Samsung phone. You’ll also get a 2,300mAh battery that supports wireless charging.

The device measures a fairly thick 15.9mm, weighs in at a relatively heavy 235 grams, and comes with a built-in T9 keyboard that will throw you back to 2002 in the best way possible. It runs on Android, and comes with modern features like Samsung Pay, S Voice, and all the usual Android Nougat trimmings.
The bad news is that the handset has only been announced for China Mobile in China and, given Samsung’s flip phone release history, it seems unlikely that we’ll ever see it in the UK.
